Going Deeper
You don’t have to answer all of these questions. Look them over, and use one or two that might be helpful as you respond to God’s Word.
Use a few of the links below to LISTEN to (or read) other voices as we seek to respond appropriately to the tragedy and injustice we’re seeing in this country:
Leon Stevenson, Lead Pastor at Mack Ave Community Church Global Outreach Partner at Community Church of East Gloucester https://www.facebook.com/leonstevensondet/videos/10163589568785006/
Esau McCaulley, Assistant Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, writing about Pentecost and protests.
Efram Smith, Co-Pastor at Bayside Church in Sacramento, CA who grew up in South Minneapolis, interview reported by Christianity Today.
Consider joining our book group to LEARN from Sarah Shin’s book Beyond Colorblind. If you’d like more information about the book group, just email us and we’ll connect you to those leading it.
What does it look like to LIVE differently in light of the challenge to live into the ethnic diversity of the kingdom of God? Take some time to think about your relationships — have you sought to build relationships mostly with people who a similar to you? Have you reached across differences to invest in people form different backgrounds or ethnicities? Bring this before the Lord, and consider how you might take a step in this direction in the coming weeks.
Listen to the song, “The Blessing” , and offer it as a LAMENT and a PRAYER over the South Minneapolis community, and over those most affected by systemic and generational discrimination and racism. Close your eyes and as you listen, plead for God’s blessing over them in this time of pain and anger. Consider how the blessing invokes God’s favor over families, and children, and children’s children — a generational blessing to address generational pain and oppression — that looks to see God’s blessing now and for generations to come.
Community Updates & PRAYER
Submit a Prayer Request: Share with one another the needs, challenges, and joys that you, your family, your neighbors, and your workplaces are going through during this time. Prayer requests can be shared with either our whole church, or just the prayer leadership teams.
Spend Some Time in Prayer: We have collected some prayer requests that have been submitted to us and we have posted them on our community prayer wall. This morning, we invite you to pray for those needs posted there, and we also invite you pray over what was shared or discovered in the Going Deeper questions above.
Share a Photo or Video: Here you have an opportunity to post a video, photo, or selfie from different groups and families to share with one another. Take a selfie with Worship Online in the background! Hold up signs! Express your gratitude and celebrate being a part of Community Church!
Benediction
Choose someone to read the passage of Scripture below out loud, or have someone from your family or Zoom group read it out loud as a benediction over our church family.
