Call To Worship

Have someone read through this call to worship from Jesus words in Matthew 11. As you prepare your heart for worship, hear Jesus invitation to meet with Him, lay your all before Him, and find your rest in Him!

Come unto me, all you that labor an are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest.

Matthew 11:28-29

This week, Pastor Jake re-introduces us to Leon and Rebecca Stevenson. Leon will be sharing for us from Psalm 139 as we conclude our preaching series: ‘Sent’.

Going Deeper

You don’t have to answer all of these questions. Look them over, and use one or two that might be helpful as you respond to God’s Word. Let’s dig into how Leon discussed three specific purposes that He and Mack Ave are called to do and how those three purposes are true for all of us.

  1. Ultimately we are ‘Sent’ to help people to KNOW the living God. Leon talked about this as beginning with understanding that to know Him isn’t a one sided relationship, but that it begins with remembering that God knows us in every way. What does it mean to you that no matter how broken our stories are, God knows every part of us, that nothing is beyond his knowledge, understanding, and care? This commitment doesn’t begin on our side with our effort. Rather the invitation is extended alongside of the knowledge that God has been waiting, calling, and pursuing you since before you were born. Do you know this about our God? Do you see the power of that invitation as it compels us to be ‘Sent’ to our families, communities, and beyond?

  2. The second purpose that Leon shared about was to demonstrate God’s PRESENCE in our world. Leon said, “We need to know, that we are never alone”. Especially in this season of social distance and isolation, what hope does that truth of God’s presence speak to you personally? What do you think that truth might mean to those who don’t know Jesus? Is there someone in your world that is feeling particularly alone today? What would it look like to be ‘Sent’ to share that truth to them this week?

  3. The third purpose that is particularly relevant in our moment in America is to speak TRUTH to brokenness. Leon shared his personal experience of never being asked by our family about what it was like to be the only black man in our church or to be in a vastly majority white region. What did that stir up in you to hear that, even as he shared it so graciously? What could it look like for our church to speak truth to brokenness? What could it look like if we first started by listening from our larger community of Jesus followers (particularly from the black church) where there is brokenness in our lives, our fellowship, and in the larger church family?

    It’s a gift to remember the church is much bigger than just us, which is what we have seen throughout this series. Perhaps, as you consider this morning’s going deeper, conclude your time by seeing the result of living out God’s call to be ‘Sent’ for his purposes in this world as it is described in Revelation 7.

    After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,  and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

    -Revelation 7:9-12

Submit a Prayer Request: Share with one another the needs, challenges, and joys that you, your family, your neighbors, and your workplaces are going through during this time. Prayer requests can be shared with either our whole church, or just the prayer leadership teams.

Spend Some Time in Prayer: We have collected some prayer requests that have been submitted to us and we have posted them on our community prayer wall. This morning, we invite you to pray for those needs posted there, and we also invite you pray over what was shared or discovered in the Going Deeper questions above.

Share a Photo or Video: Here you have an opportunity to post a video, photo, or selfie from different groups and families to share with one another. Take a selfie with Worship Online in the background! Hold up signs! Express your gratitude and celebrate being a part of Community Church!

Benediction

Choose someone to read the passage of Scripture below out loud, or have someone from your family or Zoom group read it out loud as a benediction over our church family.

“The Lord bless you, and keep you;

 The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.’ Amen

— Numbers 6:24-26
