WORSHIP ONLINE
Sunday, April 12, 2020
You can either click on the following videos below one at a time, or you can click here for a single YouTube playlist that will take you through the rest of the announcements, the worship in song, and the sermon.
Call To Worship
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! In place of a traditional call to worship from Scripture this Easter morning, we’ve recorded a short video to start our time of worship this morning. Click play, sit back, and welcome to Easter at Community Church of East Gloucester!
Welcome & Announcements
An Easter Sunday greeting from Pastor Jake,
as we celebrate the risen Lord together!
Worship in Song
This week’s worship begins with an extended Scripture reading from John 20, followed by a couple of songs for which the lyrics will be displayed on your screen. We invite you to sing along, or to use the time to reflect on the words of these songs in a journal or in prayer..
Sermon
Click on the video above to watch the sermon for this week.
This week, we’re studying John 19:30 as we conclude our series called
“7 Words: Wrestling with the Last Words of Jesus from the Cross.”
Going Deeper
You don’t have to answer all of these questions. Look them over, and use one or two that might be helpful as you respond to God’s Word.
Of the various contexts in which “tetelestai” was used, which one speaks to you the most in terms of what Jesus has done for you on the cross? Take a few moments to think about why this particular image resonates with you. Reflect on this in your journal or share your thoughts with those with whom you are gathered.
We realize it’s odd to still be talking about the cross on Easter Sunday morning, but how does an appreciation for what Jesus did on the cross amplify our joy on Easter Sunday morning?
“It is finished… and this is just the beginning!” What kind of new beginning are you in need of this Easter? Is there an area of your life that feels dead that is in need of resurrection or a new beginning? Reflect in your journal or share with your family or zoom group. Spend some time later in our time of worship this morning praying for these “new beginnings” in one another’s lives based on the resurrection power of Jesus available to those who follow Him as Savior and Lord.
Community Updates
Share with one another the needs, challenges, and joys that you, your family, your neighbors, and your workplaces are going through during this time. Submit a prayer request to either our prayer/leadership teams or to be shared with the whole church. Here you have an opportunity to post a video, photo, or selfie from different groups and families to share with one another.
Prayer
Take this opportunity to lift up your voices to God. We have collected some prayer requests that have been submitted to us and we have posted them on our community prayer wall (see the button below). This morning, we invite you to pray for those needs posted there, and we also invite you pray over what was shared or discovered in the Going Deeper questions above. Pray specifically for our church family:
celebrate the resurrection! Spend some time praying with gratitude and worship for all that Jesus accomplished on the cross, and for rising from the dead to offer new life to us all in His Name!
pray for one another as we seek “new beginnings” in various areas of our lives as we seek to bring more and more glory to Jesus in every corner of who we are.
continue to pray for God’s mercy over our world; an end to the pandemic, strength for those who are suffering, comfort for those who mourn, and that somehow God would use even this to turn people’s hearts back towards life with Him.
If you need some guidance in prayer, use the A.C.T.S. prayer guide linked below as framework for helping you pray if you’d like.
Benediction
Choose someone to read the passage of Scripture below out loud, or have someone from your family or Zoom group read it out loud as a benediction over our church family.
ephesians 1:18-20
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms
Tithes & Offerings
As you conclude in worship, take time to login to either the link below, tike time to mail a check, or reach out to your bank. Remember that our tithes and offerings are a continued act of worship and are a physical act of entrusting all of our lives to Jesus. Our Lenten Giving to Amirah can also be done through this same link (please remember that we would encourage you that our Lenten Giving is only above and beyond our regular tithes and offerings)
